Black Hills Spruce trees are noted for their dark green foliage and conical form.
It has been planted throughout the upper Midwest area for years. Seed for this year's bare root crop was collected near the nursery & for container stock, from the Black Hills of South Dakota.
The Black Hills spruce prefers heavier soils, adequate moisture, and clean cultivation. It will reash a height of six feet in nine years on a good site. Plant this tree eight to twelve feet apart in a row.
Mature height is about 40 feet. Black Hills spruce is a very resistant to winter injury tree and has fewer insect and disease problems than most other spruces.The Black Hills spruce is grown in Zone 4 and can be moved up to a Zone 2 or down to a Zone 6 without causing the tree additional stress or growing troubles.
